My bank account offers 3% (used to be four - bongistan has a 0.25% base rate so that's fairly decent) but I only keep a few grand in there for contingency. Most of my wealth is in investments. Largely income producing ones. They returned 25% last year.

Tl;dr the bank is a middleman. Skip it.
