> Pool money together with family and friends to invest
Is this a bad idea? I was reading that Buffett did a similar thing when he was in his mid 20s

how do you expect to make money with that? you're not capable of doing it full time. even if so, what makes you think you're good ? the amount of money you would pool is peanuts to other funds, What are you expecting?

yeah it's a good idea if all parties are wanting to invest in the first place. You can pool together for a down payment on an investment property (e.g. beach house).

I would do it with land first because land doesn't depreciate and you don't need insurance or repairs on it.
Buy the land in a rural but soon to be suburban, desirable area & sit on it for a few years.
Then, make another joint investment to develop it in whatever way.
Also, look into tree farms or raising cattle. (Both can be very hands-off)

Buffet was a career investor, there is no advantages in doing this unless you're pooling it to be able to get into a managed fund that requires certain amount of minimum capital.
Tl;dr if you can't make a good percentage return with 20-30k you won't make a good percentage return off 100-200k unless u joining a managed fund.
