How to profit off of the death of American malls?
>>
>>1846403
It'd make a cool paintball scenario
>>
>>1846403
Turn the stores into houses, restaurants, grocery stores, schools, and other things. Then the mall will become a community of people who never have to leave the mall. And you will be the ruler of them
>>
>>1846403
Bulldoze and redevelop

>>
>>1846412
I have heard of developers turning some of these places into condos, but housing laws are difficult in some states.
>>
>>1846403
You can make them into mini cities meant for people with dementia.
>>
>>1846403
i kinda miss the mall experience. You had a chance to buy what you needed and also talk to fellow human beings at the same time.

I think society is becoming more isolated now days.
>>
>>1846403

short retail
>>
>>1846408
yeah - add a tattoo shop and an e-cig shop and it will rock
>>
>>1846403

large roof so tons of space for solar panels

inside you could mine cryptocurrency and turn a profit
>>
>>1846403

i see a casino
>>
You could buy one and not be a business-stifling Jew about rent.
>>
>>1846408
That's actually an amazing idea
>>
Rackspace bought an old mall to use as an office.

So, I guess office buildings? The problem is a lot of malls are just too much overhead to maintain for most businesses, and they aren't necessarily laid out ideally. It's a hard repurpose.
>>
>>1846403
illegal raves
>>
>>1846408
open spaces too big. paintball has an effective range of about 15m after that it's more like a game of artillery then straight shooting.

paintball and even airsoft is best played in tight quarters.
>>
>>1846403
Easy, short $SPG
>>
>>1847317
This seems like a good idea desu.
>>
>>1846412
Wasn't this the original intent of malls? Would have been wonderful.
>>
A local mall has been basically deserted for like 10 years until some guy bought it 2 years ago. He turned it into a paint ball arena and it's worked out well. Obviously the entire mall isn't 1 arena. There's 3 in there I believe. It's been open for like 3 months now and has stayed pretty busy. I been there once and it was pretty expensive, hot, and smelly. Would rather be in an outdoor paintball arena until they invest in A/C.
>>
>>1846412
This is kind of happening in the Philippines, I stayed at a condo attached to and owned by a mall, was huge and had grocery stores and restaurants and everything. It was like a city within the city. Rarely had to drive.

A huge place filled with multiple entertainment areas: clubs, bars, arcade, laser tag, mad house/haunted house, fast food, candy shop/pancake corner, small indoor carnival with mini coaster etc etc.

Two/five things you own yourself, other spaces you rent out. You give the people the first 3 months no rent, so people will actually take the risk, after that you ask a lot of rent, but they will get a lot of customers (since it will be packed with people).

Also put one daycare on the corner, where irresponsible parents can dump their children while spending all their dollars in your babylon.

The lack of your creativity bothers me.
I am an Europoor, don't mind the typos.

Sounds like something straight out of Judge Dredd desu senpai

Malls aren't entirely dying they're just consolidating. There were too many. Now, they're closing the small ones and big ones are just fine.
>>
if most malls werent absolutely Reagan-chic itd be perfect for condos

but they are
so it isnt
>>
>>1846408
damn this is a good idea.

Keep the food court a food court but add a bar.
>>
>>1846441
Yeah, coding laws are a bitch. Most of them were meant to restrict boarding houses and to spur home purchases from soldiers coming home from WWII. Now for some reason cities aren't happy unless apartments are made to be as large as homes for some reason.
>>
>>1850308
>Reagan-chic
What do you mean about this?
>>
Step 1: Turn it into office space for startups
Step 2: Sell space to dropshiping fags and food/coffee places
Step 3: ???
Step 4: profit
>>
>>1850348
Isn't that pretty much what it already is?
>>
>>1850361
No. Malls have much higher rent than a comparable office space. They also have rules such as when you have to be open, etc.
>>
man is /biz/ fucking stupid
>>
>>1846408

WINNER
>>
>>1850348
Step 5: Fail because it's not in the Silicon Valley or other hip region

I'd say that for a mall to survive it has to have high end brands to attract people. But overall I think the best way to revive a mall is to drop the commerce only part and make it multi-functional, such as the case where they also offer living and office space. Unfortunately, some municipalities do not want to do that. Fortunately, that's not all municipalities and some are willing to let you play around with their zoning rules if it means that you can give that old rundown building and the properties around them some better value. That's what's the plan with a local mall that is teetering onto abandonment and was just recently bought out.
>>
>>1846403
Short retail REITs, but you'll probably get fucked in the ass by it
>>
>>1846403
turn into a vertical farm?
>>
>>1846412
>>1849967
>>1850110
Horrible idea, niggers would absolutely abuse this.
And you cannot discriminate per race on real-estate matters in the US.
>>
>>1847657
I've been thinking about this.
Do Americans even go out to casinos anymore, or do all their gambling online?
>>
>>1850308
what the fuck does this even mean?
>>
>>1850375
So you'd let some Arab crime-ridden nigger come into your property at all hours of the night doing shady business while creating a liability for your premises?
Are you out of your fucking mind?
>>
>>1850377
Imagine that!
A bunch of autistic new-age sperg lords congregating in one forum and jacking each other off stupidly.
You're fucking stupid for pointing this out.
>>
>>1851549
i don't know why people think vertical farms are a sane idea.

no matter how you look at it no matter how you try the same square feet gets illuminated by the sun. you don't win anything it just costs more.
>>
>>1851641
This is my first time visiting. The shocker was that these retards really think that a paintball arena is a plausible business in an abandoned mall. I can't imagine what a mall costs to maintain.
>>
Grow weed
>>
>>1851880
>>
>>1846408
that sounds great but I don't think one can pay that investment from paintball profits
>>
Rent out the mall to urban black churches, Mosques, vape shops, chink markets, parking spots for auto dealers, online gambling/slots, county/city BMV or admin space, also shoot some porn.
>>
I think it's a dying model. I don't see how you could effectively repurpose them. The design and layout is too site-specific to become anything else.

I don't think there's enough demand for it to become a place for startup companies and offices, since most malls are the the wrong location for that.

Plus the maintence on malls is very high, which rules out any stupid ideas such as paintball. Do people still even play paintball? It s just teenage boys, right?

I still kinda like going to the mall every once in a while, but I usually never spend that much.

The abandones malls should just be torn down and redeveloped into something else.
>>
>>1851880
Yeah, they're fucking role-playing bastards with a meme education with no practical knowledge.
You're right, though.
Property taxes alone on a building like that would put you in the red.
>>
>>1852003
You're right.
In most scenarios it would be too costly to tear down and rebuild.
Malls are a waste of space.
In 200 years when America runs out of space, we're going to be fucked.
>>
>>1851635
a design that's so thoroughly stuck in the 80's that it's absolutely impossible to renovate around
and on top of that a shitload of those malls are thoroughly stuck in flyover so it'd be cheaper to raze the entire structure than to maintain and renovate
>>
>>1852033
It's probably more costly to keep them maintained, even when abandoned, then it is just to tear them down and market the property for redevelopment.

And America is not going to run out of space any time in the near future. This country is fucking huge and the vast majority of it is rural.

Are you seriously saying that malls came specifically from the 80s?
Because that's incorrect.
And your little claim about flyover states is insulting.
America would be nowhere without rural areas and the economies therein.
And shopping malls were specifically designed with rural areas in mind so people didn't have to drive all over the fucking place to get a bunch of items.
The problem isn't with the "Reagan" generation, but the technology industry that has effectively destroyed tangible financial assets in the practical world.
You can thank California for that.
>>
>>1852048
With the growth of the population and the continuous efforts for residential and commercial development, 200 years is conservative.
>>
>>1851628
laws are pretty shitty concerning online-gambling in the US, depends on the state
>>
The one here was torn down and redeveloped into an outdoor mall
>>
>>1852079
Clever, very clever.
>>
>>1852061
way to get triggered there, cletus
by flyover I mean malls built in suburbs of cities in the Midwest in the 80's, of which very many are exactly that and my point is they are beyond salvation (then again some were built in the 90's which makes the whole thing even more embarrassing)
I associate the ugly blocky, poorly aged architecture of those buildings with the Reagan administration for that reason

this

unless you want to have a financial burden on life support held afloat by nothing but online clothing store outlets and shitty kiosks, the best idea is to get wild with it

make malls great again
>>
>>1852781
Way to cling to your virtues there, you liberal faggot.
I know what you mean, I've heard the term numerous times, and it's typically from people that know very little about economics.
Your life is one fragmented and sheltered view, so I wouldn't expect you to understand.
Malls came from the 60s, and mostly the 70s.
>>
>>1851880
most paintball sites are actually zero maintenance, they simply close off dangerous sections and abandon site when the building is no longer safe. no lighting no heating no air conditioning it just adds to that post apoc feel.
maybe go play some before you make assumptions.
>>
>>1847445
social skills can be developd by playing RPGs
>>
>>1846408
In addition to this Anons idea, I'd open it up to law enforcement training as well.

They use something call simunitions out of real guns that are basically like paintballs, except they hurt like a bitch and act like real bullets.

Police and SWAT would love to have an actual mall to train in, assuming they don't do that already (dont think they do)
