Is joining the military a good option?
I have a master's degree in economics and am about to join the Air Force as a Cost Analysis Officer. I would enlist for 4 years.
Is this a /biz/ respectful move?
Is the military in general a good financial move period? If you do two years you get VA benefits for life, for example.

Whatever you know what I fucking mean. "Sign up."
Now give me advice faggot.
the compensation is fucking dumpster tier. garbage men make more. get a real fucking job.

the point is to join before you get the degree...

DOING WHAT YOU WANNA DO AND BELIEVING IN IT AND ULTIMATELY ACHIEVING IT IS THE WAY TO GO. TAKE AS MUCH CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN AT EVERY STEP NO EXCUSES AND YOU'LL BE PLEASED WITH YOURSELF.

As an officer, your base pay will be shit.
However, the 22k+ non taxable "basic housing allowance" plus 400 a month for food (non taxable) is great.
You'll receive a few tax advantages as well.
If you live like you should (not like a retarded 18 year old 11B) you'll save 30-35k a year. In the real world, that is some dank savings. Now, for the "average" bizraeli who apparently makes 120k with a communications degree thats shit.

This guy knows what hes talking about
>joined at 18
>medic
>infantrymen are all I hang around
>did everything I shouldn't
>>1842011
If you have everything in order (physical fitness, medical, etc), I'd say go for it! Officer salary is pretty good, not to mention benefits and pension. One majot thing to look out for though: for commissioning with a degree already, you'll be going through OTS (Officer Training School, as opposed to USAFA or ROTC). Word on the street is that OTS is completely booked until 2019, so don't count on commissioning before then. Hopefully that date can be bumped up, between planned defense spending increases, and the possibility of reducing OTS from 65 days to 40 days. As always, talking to an officer recruiter is the first step.

>masters degree in economics
>thinks joining the chair force is a good financial move
looks like that degree was a complete waste of time
>>1842229
Essentially, yes. In case you missed the memo, economics is a pseduoscience.
>has a masters degree in economics
>goes on a shitty business forum to ask if he should join the air force
oh boy
>>1842062
I saved about 20k this year and I'm enlisted e4
>>1842011
Only if you change your name to "Milo".
>>1842011
Yes it's a great idea. Do your four and get out. Seriously. The benefits severely outweigh the small sacrifice.
I spent 4 years active in the army and 2 years in the reserve.
And this fucker is dumb >>1842018
You can enlist as an officer.
It's called an enlistment regardless of whether you go enlisted or officer.
>>1842034
It's not about the compensation, bag holder. It's about serving your country. And the skills and mindsets you develop are priceless.
>>1842037
You need a degree to go officer.
Now he can use GI bill to get a phd for free. (Actually get paid to get it)
>>1842485
This. You don't have to pay for anything while you're in. Even your food is paid for. All you have to do is save (or blow it). And the air force is cush as fuck. You will love it.

Thank you for good advice, friend.
What does an officer actually do in 2017?
