I'm doing Finance + Engineering at uni.

I'm starting to work at an accounting firm where I assume I will just be excel monkey for 2 days a week.

I have 20 hours of class time at uni and will be working 18 hours at this firm.

Will employers prefer my experience with a 3.0 or did I fuck up and I should have kept my 3.6+ but no relevant work?
>>
if you are learning a lot at your work experience then it's worth it, if you actually end up an excel monkey then it's not
>>
Do you think employers will understand if my grades slip due to working part time?

I learnt stuff last time, specifically finance stuff when I was working with the finance people.
>>
>Finance + Engineering
How is this possible? Interested, because i was planning on double majoring in CS and Finance

Idk where you live, but, in Australia lots of uni students do double degrees.

The title of the degree is:

Bachelor of Engineering (my major) with Honours with a Bachelor of Commerce (my Major)

You basically get rid of all electives and add another year to your bachelors and end up with 2 bachelors.

e..g Engineering = 4 years (with very few electives)
Commerce = 3 years (with lots of electives)
Commerce + Engineering = 5 years with no electives.

usually, at least in a middle-market firm outside nyc where people dont have sticks in ass.

I have a shit GPA but most of the employers I come across find the additional experience i have more important than the worse than average grades.

I had an interview where the guy had my gpa circled with ??? on the resume but once I explained my experience/mission statement he didnt even bring it up and I got an offer.

Especially with those credit loads they will understand. Boomers and gen-X think 15 credits is a big fucking deal. Just dont expect to work at Goldman or anything

What if I want to keep my options open for IB and BB?

Maintain a 3.5GPA minimum?
>>

Thanks for the answer btw

Cs and finance makes way more sense
>>

3.5 is typical from what I hear.

IB is gay though, on a per-hour basis you dont really make a lot

And i dont think trading generally has such hard limits on GPA but you would be best served with a 3.5 even at a target school, thats about the bottom limit i've seen trading offers for people at my school (absolutely non-target but well connected alumni)

I'm in Computer engineering - not that far of a stretch from Computer science.

>>1839591
I'm at a non target school, strong for accounting and finance though. Trading would be my ultimate aim regardless if it's quant stuff or your typical trading.

Okay, I'll try keep myself about a 3.5.

Thanks for all the information friend.

Im not sure what general engineering. Is it physics?
>>1839589
Thats good. But Ive been worried about code junkies being saturated. Ive been wondering if i would have more job opportunities if i doubled majored in mathematics or physics instead of CS.
>>
>>1839598
It's not general engineering, I just didn't specify major. I'm in Computer Engineering which at my uni is basically 1.5 years of Java and Half of Electrical Engineering.
