Hello biz,
With the ETF ruling drawing closer I am going to put a stop-limit on my BTC on poloniex to sell it off incase it begins to crash. Is there a better way to protect ones self? Also, where do you think I should put my Stop and Limit price at?

Sound a lot like you want somebody else to do all the work for you. You seem to think a limit order is any sort of "protection" against swings prices and not something that will be hunted by an algorithm trading btc. You also don't even know at what price to place your order. Pathetic.

like he said,
you can usually expect some whipsaw action on a binary event like this to gobble up stops before the market actually moves in the proper direction
massive buying and selling of people just before the announcement, some getting in to gamble, some getting out to avoid the gamble, etc.
see: gold movement before a fed meeting or oil movement every wednesday at EIA petroleum reports
can you actually do that on Poloniex? I don't see an option to buy or sell BTC, only options to trade BTC for other currencies.
