I perused the white paper they linked on zcash and am still not clear how this would differ from zcash and if it would be a brand new coin or if this is an actual use of the eth smart contract.

I'm very surprised there's no /biz/ hype about this.

No idea, the thread doesn't say. Some anon here mentioned it and another scoffed at zk-SNARKS being anonymous. The theory seems sound enough. I'm just thinking it could be huge. Nobody is talking about it which means it's not well known, but also means not much actual info.

Whoever responded to the thread seemed clear on what this meant, I don't follow this stuff really so it was beyond me. They are clear it's a pre-ann and no ICO will happen, so presumably nothing happening yet.

This is why I'm confused, Zcash is already a thing, trading under ZEC and worth ~0.03/btc right now.
