ITT: Rate my dream/idea/goal
So consider the following: Within every industry there are certain financial ratios (ROI, Solidity, Profit margin etc.) that are recurring or "standard". For instance, in retailing, the Asset Turnover tends to be high and the Profit Margin low. Now suppose you own a retail company and it's not doing so good. Then you could bring in a certain financial consultant, who would examine your KPIs, compare them to industry standard, figure out what's "wrong" and recommend a solution.
I'm majoring in accounting and I would like to do something like this. Does this type of service exist? What is it called? Is it profitable?

It's called consulting and it's typically done by people with significant years of experience in the given industry.

Consulting firms will hire any liberal arts major chad or Stacey looking person out of a top school that can read charts and graphs.

For the grunt work but there's some experienced principal leading the project. And that's only at the big firms anyway. Most industry consulting is done by retired professionals.
