Trading looks very interesting but I'd like to practice before I put my own capital up. It there a best platform to paper trade? Or should I legit just be using paper and pencil?

investopedia gives you a decent amount of fake money to play with
Short-term stock market fluctuations can go either way. Can you really learn to be better at coin flipping?

TD Ameritrade has the thinkorswim platform which allows demo trading.
You should understand the limitations of demo trading. Regulations are not enforced so things such as PDT and good faith violations can be broken. It will be a problem once you go live and realize the way you trade isn't allowed. In other words look up the rules and regulations. You will also need to understand liquidity since demo platforms don't simulate it or do it poorly.

not much point in paper trading - I mean aside from literally using a demo account to learn to use a platform etc..
if you're day trading then you'll lose anyway and paper trading is completely deceptive - you're not going to be able to get an accurate simulation of where you'd have actually been filled in the real market, you won't experience slippage or prices disappearing etc...
for longer term investing - what is the point... say you buy and hold - well you want to do that for years really... are you going to stick your savings in cash and 'paper trade' for 15 years then realise you're OK at it and try it for real? Not worth it...

something people with no edge attempt, sometimes experience positive variance from and then mistake their beta for actual alpha
you do realise how many CTAs and hedge funds compete in that time frame right?

That's why the stockmarket is only for huge-money and idiots.
If you want to make money trading it's in crypto.
paper trading doesn't work because it cannot simulate the psychosomatic effects of trading stocks.

that is more to do with you taking silly punts than any edge or lack of it in paper vs live account
