What do these guys do? Aren't exchanges fully electronic and based on the internet these days?

Depends on the exchange. Some still do floor trading, but yes, it's phasing out.

It's pretty much ceremonial at this point. If CBOE and CBOT dont need floor traders any longer then certainly the NYSE doesn't either.
We went to the floor of CBOT when I was in HS and it was awesome. Guys literally getting into fistfights over grain futures. All the talk about Wall Street's depravity...I don't know options guys always seemed a step above even that.
