It took a few years, but the key points: (1) don't complain about problems at work, try to fix them - and use your personal skills to build consensus. (2) become valuable enough that your higher-ups cannot boss you around. Learn how to tactically speak up and push back. This was very hard for someone as short as I was (yes, and I look like an autist), but I was able to perservere and now report directly to one of the higher-ranking executives.

To those saying you need to be "in business" to have made it..I feel sorry for those guys. I work 40 hours a week then come home and literally just lay back and have no worries at all.
