depends on how much, it's at a billion dollar marketcap and i dont know how much more it can go up.
i think ETH is making decision to go to proof of stake this year, which means no one will be mining, and GPU miners will most likely switch over to ETC

if you got a lot of money, and think ether will be worth more in the future, then yea, i would do it. but if you have low capital, definitely check out some other cryptocurrencies for potential higher return

What would you recommend, I'm talking around £1000, something I can just sit on for a few years and maybe make a couple £

Buy ethereum. It is much more likely to double or triple in value than bitcoin is and is a far safer bet than most of the small cap cryptos
Pepecash seems like a solid buy right now.

yea, the major US exchange is coinbase, and europe is kraken,
u can also do local bitcoin to get btc
then send btc to https://poloniex.com/exchange or some exchange and get ETH
actually i think u can get ETH directly from coinbase now, idk, but there are lots of ways to get it
