Hgv mechanic better for when the robot drivers come?

Car mechanics are a dime a dozen. Crappy pay. Same with short haul truck drivers. Ask /o/ about long haul trucking.
No one will need car mechanics, when we habe electric vehicles and autonomous driving. Cars will be maintainable by machines.

Who fixes the machines?
A fucking mechanic

I am a freelance truck driver in the UK
I do it as a limited company and my overall tax bill is about 15% of turnover, since I use fuel & meal allowance, draw tax free dividend etc
Full automation is a long way away, even automatic driver aids are still erratic
I will retire 8 years from now so I don't give a shit anyway

This argument is pretty laughable. Once stuff gets sufficiently automated/outsourced prices tank and shit just becomes throw away. This has already happened with so many other items I wouldn't be shocked if one day they start marketing a car for like $5,000 that works for a couple of years and then dies.

No.
I have done both.
2 of the shittiest fucking jobs ever.
