I have been shorting stocks for a week pretty successfully but all the big boy traders on stocktwits seem to be selling uncovered calls and making gorillions. Should I switch strategies from simple shorting to naked call selling?

whats your plan when it goes against you?
what is your stop loss strat on your current short strat?

for my short strategy i hedge it against being called with my long equity main account position, which is 20X the size of the short
i guess i would bail if i took like a 50% hit on the short. so far i am up about 20% so im not too worried about that short or long term
im not actually sure how margin calls on uncovered call selling works. would i be forced to buy the 100 shares of the option if it goes too red? i know there's no theoretical upper limit to the loss but realistically with just month from expiration it can't hurt me that badly even if it doubles in that time (100% loss). unless i am misunderstanding?

it was more a rhetorical question for u, for example you should know everything about expiring in the money/ margin issues with your broker etc .
if u have 20x equity position why not just do covered calls on spy etc

>if u have 20x equity position why not just do covered calls on spy etc
i actually short volatility so it's a bit harder, because holding volatility instruments long, they always degenerate except on those days they explode upwards, so it's a painful covering, you're right though i'll talk to my broker about what happens in extremis

u just long xiv or svxy?
Options provide a better vehicle for speculation in the market. So yes, I would start learning how to use them effectively. For example, even selling a put against your short positions would instantly improve your cost basis.
When you sell options you limit your gains but improve your probability of profit.
when the stocks below 5 so you can't short it, it can definitely come in handy
