Hey Biz, panicked architect major here. Is it worth it? I'm wondering what kind of specialization would be best?

Its a career with a ton of pointless credentialism and little payout. You will probably wind up mapping out parking spaces in strip malls for $50k a year with $100k of student debt.
I would kill to live near that waterfall

Agreed, I know many architects, they are all poor.

>lumping architecture in with engineering
for what reason

It's a shitty part of the country to live in

are you into design? then only high-tech algorithmic parametricism via grasshopper etc., everything else is childish play. bear in mind the threshold is high with design and is also profoundly a matter of taste rather than know-how (although the know-how in discrete geometry and coding is entry level to even start designing)
are you into project management? then real-estate development and project management together with in-depth knowledge of building technology and zoning/fire/building codes and laws. this is the core architecture work, something that will always be in demand. for this, design and taste is not as acquired as being an entreprenaur that can develop and lead projects, overtaking responsibilitiy for multi-milion developments. HERE you do not make mistakes, one mistake will most probably cost you your career, since they are expensive for everyone involved.

they probably meant civil engineering

That sounds accurate

Where are you from? it depends on the situation in your cunt. I live in a European cunt and here 50 % of newly educated architects are unemployed. But those architects with a job earn a lot here so it depends on if you have talent in architecture or not.

I'm from Alaska. It's a good state for my major employment wise.
