I tried scrapping stock data, but that is not sufficient.
Does /biz/ know of any other alternatives on getting cheap to free ticker data? It doesn't have to be exactly real-time just close enough.
Why be scrapping your data when you should be scraping it?
Why is it not sufficient?

how far back do you want to go? how exact does it need to be (second, millisecond, microsecond?). what's your end game here?

The second is good enough. My computer is too slow for anything else.

are you looking for real time or historical? because historical data for anything even kind of specific is going to cost you money. with real time thinkorswim can get you second by second data for pretty much free.

I need something that is almost real time. It can have some lag. I read that laggy data was cheaper, but all these data subscriptions are so expensive.

yeah. at this point if you have a strong idea or a strong piece of code your best bet would be to send a pitch to any hedge fund you can find. they usually hire college graduates but the right firm will take anyone with a winning idea. good luck.

I feel like hedge funds would want the status quo.
