I've been thinking about joining the Air Force. I want to get into an IT or STEM field, and I figure it might be good to get experience in mechanical engineering. Plus I'd get free food and housing for a good while. Cheaper college too.
Is this a good idea or am I being completely cucked by propaganda right now? Convince me as to why this would be a good or bad idea, /biz/

It's the equivalent of being paid ~$35,000 per year for your freedom.
your freedom is worth $35,000? you're a fucking moron.

Depends, are you gonna be my wing man or a Top Gun?

You don't make that much overall, but it's true your expenses are much lower. You don't make shit when you join as an E1-E3, you'll always be hurting for money. But as an E5 (average rank for someone in the military), you make enough to have a decent car and a nice place to live. You can also choose to live in a shittier place or share rent with roommates if you want to pocket more money.
The real gains come after 20 years, where you can go get a good job right out the gate AND get payed a pension. It's like 25-35k a year ON TOP of whatever salary you'll make in your next job.
