the whole argument against PoW is that it is wasteful. Peercoin and NXT are still not very successful compared to top 15 cryptocurrencies. PoS will make ETH even more centralized

the main reason for switching to PoS is not because it will save electricity costs. that's just a bonus. the main reason is that it makes the network much more secure because it costs much, much more to attack the network with PoS
