I'm new at trading, right now i'm using Degiro, but it seems a bit lame and I heard about Metatrader.
However, that software seems free, what are the costs? How much does it charges for every order? Are there hidden costs or disadvantages?
Metatrader is just a software what is available for free. No costs for demo trading.
When you trade at a broker you pay the spread.

This is correct.

Avoid MT4/5 Brokers and the platform.
These brokers use back-end plugins called "mt4 broker dealer plugins" - do a google search and you see a plethora of information about this.
You will not make ANY money using MT4/5.

Interesting I'll look into this. I have made money with metatrader 4 before but I only trade 5000$ accounts at the most

I use another broker that doesn't use mt4 http://www.sandton.direct
I'm not sure if they use something similar as well

Then can somebody explain to me how do I find a good trading software/platform?
Once again, Degiro sucks, it takes days to transmit money from my banking account, the technical analysis and data sucks, and orders seem to take time to be effective. Additionnaly, I doubt the datafeed is really 'live' (I mean stock price do not seem to be up to date, there seems to be a short delay, but I may be wrong--sorry for broken English)

Interactive BRokers with TWS or Ninjatrader.

this. or use the IB API to build your own.

FIX API is the way to go.
Interactive Brokers is also a listed company.
Should be a red flag right there.
