Tl;dr is that Yahoo is selling to Verizon for about $5 per active user, which is nothing. So shareholders are getting shafted.
Some point out that Yahoo's stock has doubled in the 5 years Mayer has been CEO. Although this is true it's not because of her stewardship but because Yahoo Japan has done very well (not controlled by Mayer) and their huge investment in Alibaba has paid off. Their core business has continued to fall to pieces though.
