General UBER related thread(Lyft is ok too)

>What are your experiences with UBER(riding or driving)?
>Why are they still millions in debt?
>What other type of business could you start that uses a similar "on-call" system?
>If you're a driver, what are your craziest stories?
>>
Well I can tell you for sure the drivers are fucked in 3-4 years. Uber is going self-driving, and they will do it FAST. Frankly I would prefer a self-driving car, I hate talking to the damn drivers and I hate tipping.
>>
>>1720558
I don't think self-driving cars will be around in every market for awhile. I think it will have to be an
all or none type thing. The human factor plays too big of a part in transportation for it to transfer entirely to a computer so quickly

>What are your experiences with UBER(riding or driving)?
riding is great. love it. cheap.
>Why are they still millions in debt?
no idea. prob expanded too fast
>What other type of business could you start that uses a similar "on-call" system?
no idea
>If you're a driver, what are your craziest stories?
im not

>What are your experiences with UBER(riding or driving)?
it's fine as a customer, it's heavily subsidized at this point. it costs $45 or $50 to get a cab from the airport to my house. uber is $25. the difference in cost comes from uber's primary innovations: lower driver pay, shifting the cost of car maintenance to the driver, arguing that they shouldn't need a taxi license, and having underinsured cars.

>Why are they still millions in debt?
they don't charge enough. they lose drivers very very quickly, so they have to continue to recruit heavily and pay sign on bonuses to find new ones. the way it is being run right now is not a sustainable business.

They're banking on self driving cars.
>>
>>1721249
they are a couple decades too early.
>>
>What are your experiences with UBER(riding or driving)?

Very few bad experiences though I feel that the quality of driver has gone lower (last ride I had to walk 100 feet because he overshot me and almost got on the highway). Drivers talk too much. I know they want a five but I don't enjoy forced conversation. Next time I get in an uber I'm going to tip the driver not to talk.

If you drive for uber you're just borrowing from the value of your car.

>What other type of business could you start that uses a similar "on-call" system?
The answer is right in front of you
>>
is their business model just to get everyone doing UBER?
>>
>>1721651

The biz model is guantity over quality. I drive for them while in college. They truly don't give a shit about the drivers.
They don't care about the quality of the service the drivers provide unless it's REALLY REALLY bad.

They also don't educate the riders on the app. More than 75% of the riders don't know how to fucking use the damn thing
>>
I deliver food for them. I make bank for what I do. It's worth it for Uber to overpay me because they're trying to build and own the market. Plus they get 30 percent of the ticket from what I understand, so it's not like it comes all out of their pocket. They are banking big on automation, it's true, but they don't necessarily want to go head to head with Amazon in the robot wars. They just want to own grocery and restaurant delivery in the cities.

>tipping in an uber
are you fucking retarded
>>

>live in germany
>taxi drivers require a license to transport passengers
>taxis are super expensive
>it is forbidden for private people to offer lower rates
>uber cant operate
>lyft cant operate

what the fuck is this guys?

theres a fortune to be made in germany right now but you simply can't because meme laws that protect taxi drivers who earn 10 euro shekels for a 5 min ride

>guy I met says he lives near me and he'll split it with me
>I send him a venmo request for the ride
>He gave me some fake ass name

>Tip him for being that shred of a father I never had.

You should have told him to give the half the fare straight up, you idiot.
>>
>>1723450

Jesus, someone needs to break the back of that socialism shit in Germany, it's killing you guys. Stop holding up the EU, those coastal niggers can get fucked.
>>

>it is forbidden for private people to offer lower rates
It's also forbidden for "private people" to run an unlicensed contracting, plumbing, or electrician business. They sure do charge lower prices, though.
How is Uber any different? Their drivers aren't required to routinely qualify for a chauffeur license like cabbies and limo drivers, and as a result, they can offer much lower fares.

>I hate talking to the damn drivers
Then don't talk to them you fucking faggot loser

>>1720554
I just made $220 today driving. Been doing it for 2 years when I thought it would just be temporary. AMA.

>Drivers talk too much.
I don't. You think I want to talk to faggots like you.
>If you drive for uber you're just borrowing from the value of your car.
Well aware. Thank You.
