Is the hard inquiry and credit score hit by a credit card company worth the 1.5 percent cash back?

Go compare cards on nerdwallet.
Keep your old card though, credit history is a part of your score.

As long as you don't say plan on purchasing a home or car in the near future no the hard inquiry doesn't matter.

if you qualified for a rewards card several companies will send you applications.
if you haven't gotten applications you don't qualify for one.
