A guy was going door to door the other day in my apartment block and was using this exact line:

I was raised as a JW. I started going door to door when I was about 6. I stopped when I was 17.

There is no comfortable way to intrude on complete strangers in their own homes. You know they resent you and they know you know it and are there being a dick anyways.

which means they are automatically inclined not to listen to you from the very start. You might be able to use curiosity or sympathy to string people along for a while, but as soon as you get down to what you're selling they're going to remember you came to their door trying to take advantage of them, and they're going to politely tell you to fuck off. As well they should. You don't go to people's houses and be a slimy dickhole and expect them to thank you for it. Whatever you're selling isn't that cool.

Look up the archives for the sales and bread threads. Lots of good info.

Door to door sales is still kinda general. You doing b2b or b2c? Service or product? Look for exexexampl scripts. A lil googling should be enough. Thats barely touching the surface. If sales if your main income here, study up.
