I was just "let go" from my probationary period and am eligible for unemployment.
I've never used it nor do I know of anyone that has.
What does /biz/ think about UI and what are some "hacks"?
Also, what are some examples of people misusing it - just so I know what not to do, for science, and for a friend.
I'm in California, FYI.

alberta oil industry, maybe not plausible now
crazy overtime for 6 months as in like 80 hours or some bullshit. Then take unemployment for the rest of the year, all that overtime is taken into account so you're still making mad bank.

I looked into oil field work a while back and nobody is starting new drilling since the price dropped.

Anyone?
good luck either way OP. Somewhat similar case here and it takes them 2 fucking months to do anything. Better have a lifetime savings because you wont get that money anytime soon. Enjoy paying taxes immediately though. fuck this gay earth and fuck cali.
If you were making good money at your last job you can get up to $400-500 per week for up to 26 weeks (depends on state). You have to regularyly check into a system, usually online, to prove your are looking for work.
After 26 weeks you are no longer unemployed, in the government's eyes.
$9000 over six months isn't all that much, and if you making real money before it will be painful. And depressing.
Good luck and get back to work,
