Selling would be stupid.
If - IF - a major dip comes, it'll be waaaaay after the 2013 ath of $ 12k.
This current growth trend has been very consistent for 16 months, nothing like the 2013 bubble.

We've had some great gains in the past two months, a short term dip before the next leg up is quite possible.

I've got 61.6 BTC and I'm still buying more. I bought my first in 2012, still holding.

I now put every spare dollar I can into Bitcoin. I've given up drinking beer, smoking weed and eating out just so I have more money for coins.

I have a hole in one of my work shoes, and when it rains I have a wet foot. But I will not shell out on some new shoes because I can put that money in bitcoin and watch it grow.

I was wondering if I'm insane, but even the coins I bought 1 months ago are 20% up.

A big price crash I guess. But no one has that much, the market cap is only $15 Billion.

Maybe Satoshi himself has that much, he's the only person I can think of.
>>
>>1694609
There are no such hoarders.

Look at the growth rate over the past 16 months, it's been steady growth with a few typical peaks and valleys.
If someone pumped a retarded sum like 1bn into bitcoin, that person must've been doing it gradually over an extended period of time.

Nobody with that kind of money plays that kind of long game with something so new and volatile as buttcoin.

Bitcoin Price Can Reach $1,000 Before New Year, Hits $990 in China

The price of Bitcoin in China went past $990 this afternoon, as Chinese investors continued to push high volumes in local exchanges.

Most investors at this time of the year are hoping to evade capital controls and circumnavigate cash restrictions, as noted by Holger Zschaepitz, financial author and editor of Welt.

Analysts revealed that Bitcoin hit record high volumes this past week, which ultimately led to its price rally and pushed the price of Bitcoin to increase by over 20 percent. Zero Hedge suggested that Chinese investors are anticipating further yuan devaluation and the tightening of capital controls, caused by the rising rates of the Federal Reserve and increasing cash outflow as the New Year approaches.

Well. I was thinking about Satoshi himself. I'm looking at it from another perspective, for I am not an economist. No one would play a game that long with money, but what about those who mined it in the early days?

It doesnt need to be one person. If the prices keep getting higher and higher and everybody decides to sell it all at once (like many around here are planning to do), wont the whole thing go down in flames?
>>
>>1694638
Well yes, and if everyone on earth decided to become NEET all at once the entire system would go down in flames.

well, yes. But this is kind of a dumb question. Anything would go down in price if there is mass selling.

A better question is: Will there be mass selling? Will there be mass buying? What are the driving factors?

>>
>>1694609
Don't know if you meant maliciously or simply to get a profit
he would probably not sell all his coins, start a panic and end with a shitload of bitcoins that worth nothing anymore.

If you can't short the bitcoin with a derivative, or whatever, you have no interest in dumping mass amount of bitcoin you own. If you're smart, you would sell them steady but slowly to do no harm to the price of the commodity you own.
It's not forex, it's more about balance between actual buyers and sellers, right now I think it's buyers who think they still have a profit to make, and sellers who already made a profit.
At some point the sellers could be a lot of people wanting to get their profit out of the coin, and could reach a critical mass for panicking effect.

Thanks brothers.

Yeah I keep track, BTC's been a 20 bagger for me so far, that is 2000%, approximately, over 4 years.

I did some day trading of alt-coins for a while. Lost about 20% of my BTC on this foolishness, an expensive lesson.

Bitcoin has value, the world hasn't realized this yet.

Yes, we know it has amazing value as a new form of money, but for example, 99.99% of Indian or Venezuelan people still haven't heard about Bitcoin. It is the solution to their money problems, they just don't know it yet.

Be right, sit tight. Be strong, go long.

Day trading, or alt-coins are too random, like playing lotto.

if i had to start from scratch now i would probably throw some money into a bunch of altcoins, it would be a huge amount of work though just checking the charts every day, which is why i like bitcoin because i ve just been able to leave it alone.

>>1699514
i wouldnt risk it all on altcoins but if you want to get rich quicker youre going to have to try your hand at trading them. just last week look at etc, went up 20-30% or something crazy. its the "small" coins you want to be aware of really. but yea dont gamble on that shit if youre not comfortable with it. just holding bitcoin like you said will be fine in the long term, at least i believe so anyway.

Monero is a meme, its dynamic block size will make the network centralized if it gets anywhere as close as Bitcoin tier transaction volume and that is still small.

BTC is king sorry.

>>1699984
what bunch? most are shit if not all.

Maybe months ago you still had some alts worth investing in, but all the memes have been beaten already (the anonymous coin meme, the smart contracts meme, the hard forked meme, the "comical coin" meme....) what the fuck is next?
>>
>>1700010
still lots of coins not supported in china, most of etc's pumping is down to chinese adoption. im not saying throw money at alrcoins for the long term, long term i would bet most alts will trend to zero due to their nature of always competing against each other, but short term theres money to be made

What do you mean coins not supported in china?
as in not included in yobit?

Was ETC recently included in china and thats why it pumped?

What "big" alts aren't yet added in chinamen exchanges?

Will Waves even show up in polo?

The Yuan just hit 7k on Kraken.

That counts for something, right?

CCP pointing to heavier capital controls would panic investors into getting their money out of China, which would mean a lot of Bitcoin demand

i've seen a few posts mocking the claim that it's not possible to "cash out". as in, move your dollar balance out of an exchange and into a bank account.

so it's doable? exchanges don't have cash withdrawal limits or other "problems"? bank won't freeze the account for [some reason]?
>>
>>1701372
I'm on Kraken, and currently I can withdraw $ 25k per day, and $ 200k per month.

You just have to provide a bunch of ID information to them.

I'm concerned about this too.

If I had $20,000 in BTC and decided to cash most or all of it out, wouldn't that look shady as fuck to the bank?

On the other hand, there are precious metals dealers like JM Bullion who take BTC as payment, so guess I could buy 18 or so ounces of gold with it instead as a sort of pseudo money laundering, but what then?
>>
>>1701375
that's encouraging. have you gotten any money out lately?
>>
>>1701381
I moved about 10k around a couple of times between my bank account, Kraken, and my wallet just to get the hang of it.
Works flawlessly.

Since you seem to be new; here's a protip: never leave your coin on any exchange website, put it in your wallet.

I'm using electrum with 2 factor authentication, on a USB, and backed up (with encryption) on a disconnected external harddrive.

Here's how: http://www.w3bdeveloper.com/how-to/how-to-store-bitcoins-on-a-usb-drive-using-electrum/

The link to the electrum wallet is in there.

Bought a grand of Trump at 2000 sat, sold at 12000. Put it all into waves ico, sold immediately for double. Should I bother keeping my day job?

Shorting this stuff is extremely risky, even (or especially) during strong uptrends.

Experienced traders have lost hundreds of thousands of dollars trying to short bitcoin during the latest bull run.
>>
should I buy now?

On one hand its gonna be on the news soon/people will see it on the news soon.

Does that mean they will all sell cause they were planning to sell at $1000
or
does it mean more people will buy?
>>
>>1701445
I re-bought yesterday, made 700 euros since.

If you look at the growth trend of the past 16 months, it's very obvious that bitcoin is at the very least shooting for a new ATH.

This.

Try shorting bitcoin with 10 bucks or something, just for fun.
You'll soon understand why simply holding is such a smart idea.
