Thoughts on moving away from your hometown /biz/
Only do it for a great opportunity.
I recommend it, it's healthy and fun to leave your comfort zone and live in a new place, good for personal growth
Move to a 2nd tier city like Tampa or Nashville. Major cities are an insane rip off.

I agree. Lived in Chicago and NYC before, never again. High rent, high taxes, long commute times, big egos, and more. It's fun for a few years, but gets old fast.

What did you do for work in each city?

have a bump on the house
Only abject failures stay in my hometown their entire lives.
I did at 17 now I'm 22 and easily top 10% most successful in my graduating class

Might not be fun, but he's definitely right about personal growth and healthy.

Main reason I'm dong this shit.

They way I figure it, if you're not one of those Type-A go getters than you'll dislike the big cities like New York and Chicago.

I moved around a ton in my 20s. all over the country.
about to turn 30, moving back to my hometown. I find that I move more fluidly around people that grew up in the same area as me.

I did it. Moved from my bumfuck small mid-sized shitty town after high school and to Chicago where I've stayed for almost 9 years.
There's no way I would have been able to find opportunities, network, and build my career had I never left. All small towns experience a significant amount of brain drain, everyone who has half a head moves to a big city. Plus the experiences and human capital you accumulate just living in a cosmopolitan area is tremendously valuable.
