For mass content quality and length beat having lots of little pages. A 3000 word page beats 10 500 word ones.

Yes and no. Any niche worth money is propped up with blackhat, just well hidden. Nothing keyword based is clean.

Brand style or local based queries can rank whitehat.

Googles own webmaster guidelines circa 2007 would get you an over optimization penalty today. Its a constant tug of war, and after years of bs its easier to focus on business fundamentals than obsess over what mountain view says you should do. If you stay ahead of the curve seo is great, but doing the same stuff every dingus is doing you will get whacked.

I like SEO because it's extremely passive. Target low hanging fruit & just let your site run. The high-level competitive keywords are constantly manipulated with PBNs and such, but there's a lot to earn in the long tail.

However I understand the possibility to earn 1 yr's salary in a month with PPC is valuable too
