If have a 130k fed student loan debt for a jd and I make 85k starting in NYC, why shouldn't I just ride out the income based payment plans and just work with the money I save from not going on a standard payment plan and eat the tax bomb when it comes up?

you could. another option is to get a job that lets your qualify for public service loan forgiveness (PSLF.) you'd have to look into the specifics, but just about any government job would work, i believe. loans are forgiven after 120 qualify payments and there are no tax bombs. of course you wouldn't be making $85k in a government or PSLF-qualifying job.
