You're a dumbass for thinking that people like Bezos got rich because they wanted to be rich. Look at the richest people - Gates, Soros, Buffett, all still working. And I bet you these guys would still be working if they'd only made it to 50 million in net worth.

You think that all that "visionary stuff" is just a marketing gag or a myth? These guys look farther than you probably ever will, and their drive to create something, to be successful, is what keeps them going to work every single day. They're addicted, and luckily, they even share their wealth. Through their stocks, through charity.

Actually I'm pretty sure Buffett created Jobs by funding companies, including his own company, and wealth for his shareholders. Berkshire-A-Holders of the first few years are rich now.

Gates is famously known for coding himself a lot, even as Microsoft began to hire hordes of developers. Also "stealing" the concept of GUI lmao. Same thing could be said from Apple, but let's be honest here, the GUI was just a logical and evolutionary step.

Even Soros created something. For his shareholders, and thanks to him British people didn't have to suffer from an overvalued pound sterling any more.

It's not that easy to sell off stock after a certain point because you diminish your return just by selling.

Also I guess there's some psychology behind it. Why sell off your own stock if you don't need the money anyway? Holding onto it will boost confidence in the company and the stock itself.

Also since Bezos probably wants to remain in control of Amazon he surely wants to own a certain share of it directly, at least enough to veto shareholder decisions.

He believes in his own fucking company and has more than enough cash to live very well. In a way, people like him including Zuckerberg will never really be able to use any of their net worth because it involves a very complex selling process. After the sale too if he could even shift all his stock, he'll lose a lot of control in the company and also lose a lot of faith from everyone. On paper they're very rich but its the equivalent of having a Bitcoin wallet which you've got the password for somewhere but you can't quite remember where but you'll find it eventually if you look hard enough.
