Why doesn't the US government just take some cash from the general fund and play the market? It could raise billions in funds every year. Which can go to paying down debt and then keeping taxes down.

set it up so the fund can't buy enough shares to vote or gain control of a company.
it could just set up a high frequency trade server and legally front thousands of stock trades a day. Making a few pennies profit per trade.
You do realize that the government buying shares of publicly trading companies is a form of the people seizing the means of production, right?
