That's usually not nearly enough to get to know a company
Also, there should be notes about anything this major on the statement
Check around, you probably missed them
Looks pretty simple: they borrowed money to buy investment properties. Their current borrowings probably rolled over into long-term borrowings. Don't put too much emphasis on short-term balance sheet entries.
Former long-term borrowings -> Current borrowings most likely, maybe increased short-term borrowings for increasing working capital. Without looking at the notes I'd be concerned for liquidity issues on the short term.

look at the dates again, then check a calendar to see what order the months are in, then look at the dates one more time.
