Yeah, I work for 30 hours to cover rent then the rest I keep. I'm also a full time college student so I like the flexibility not having a real set schedule can give me, but it does have drawbacks if they have me care for the kids when I have a ton of homework.

Either way, just front up to him and say "Am I paid $10/hour or $30/day?" and then get his reason for not paying you the extra hour. If it's $10/hour then only work three hours, if it's $30/day then decide if you like the job or need to quit
