Also, are you disproving my point? I'm just saying there's a lot of money going into Canadian real estate that doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon. The large number of Chinese buyers we see in real estate are, most likely, a fraction of the potential buyers in the future.

There were the Japanese in the 80s buying up real estate, the Chinese now, and (making an assumption here) the Indians sometime down the road. I doubt real estate will go down anytime soon and if you're shorting it, it's probably way too early and you're bound to lose a lot of money before it goes down.

I don't know much about Fannie/Freddie so I can't comment. Cmhc provides insurance to ensure the banks are solvent if the mortgage holder isn't. These house prices couldn't be supported domestically if it weren't for cmhc allowing 5% down. China will keep buying as long as the trend is up. They're the weed stocks for Chinamen. So basically there's no value in this market unless you're speculating, and we all know what speculators do in a downtrend
