most brokers have simulated trading accounts where you can make trades using fake money. it's a good way to practice imo but as soon as you get the gist i recommend starting to use real money (small amounts) so you can understand the psychology of trading and how your mind reacts when real money is on the line.

How can i learn how to value companies to determine if i want to invest or not?
Also, when speaking of short term investments/trading stocks, how does one determine when a good stock is buy vs sell?
Is there a beginner's guide to this shit? Not a "get rich quick" bullshit thing, but legitimately like a "don't be a retard" sort of guide

This. Psychology of trading is 60% of the effort.

there is a series of videos on value investing at buffettsbooks.com that will teach you a quick way to value a business based on its equity growth over time, dividend payments and the current bond rate. I recommend going through all the videos (about 36 in total spread over 3 courses) as there is more than just a stock's price to consider, such as its stability in market downturns, cash flow and effective reinvesting of income, among others.
This will not help you much if you want to day-trade though, since valuations by this method measure estimated equity growth and return on capital over time, typically 10 years or more.
