Why would Uber want to advertise here?
Everyone on this site has already heard of Uber.

By that logic why would they advertise nearly anywhere in the first world?
Advertising isn't so much about telling people you exist as it is about reminding them that you exist.

yea i saw that earlier too

Yeah, I'm wondering that, too.
>Advertising isn't so much about telling people you exist as it is about reminding them that you exist.
But everyone in a major US city knows what Uber is and what it does.
I've seen ads on TV recently for either Uber or Lyft (I'm not sure which) but they're trying to get drivers, not riders, which makes sense since people are likely to think about that much less.

Yeah but imagine you're getting ready to head out, you're in a rush, you think you might miss the next bus and you open your phone and oh shit, Uber, might as well give that a go.
I saw that ad on my phone earlier and clicked it out of curiosity.
It took me to somewhere that wasn't Uber and then failed to load. Anyone actually try to follow it? I can't imagine Uber advertising here but I don't put anything past the Japanese.

I mean I guess I could see that but I have to wonder how much income they get from that sort of thing compared to the cost of advertising.
>>1557656
That would be hard to quantify, because the amount they make through direct clicks wouldn't correlate well to how much income that ad made over time, as an ad might be the reason someone uses Uber the first time, but if they thought it was a good service they will continue to use it in the future without clicking on ads, whereas if they'd never seen it in the moment they needed, they might never even try it, even if they had heard about it.
Most successful companies aren't stupid and companies like Uber wouldn't have their explosive success if it wasn't for the ubiquity of their brand through advertising.
