At first I promoted in on related forums by having links to articles in the signature of my posts.

After some time the articles starting getting picked up on Google and most of the traffic now is organic from Google, so I don't have to do anything.

The key is to find things to write about that people search up a decent amount on search engines but which there aren't already a million articles about. So I needed to be specific. It was really a hit and miss tho, the articles that do the best get hundreds of views a day however others get almost none.

I stopped writing articles for the site because I'm not interested in the subjects any more, I don't really like Apple products nowadays, and I can't think of anything to write about. It's a shame, I could be making a lot more money.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

Oh a real answer! Thank you!
I made a website in the pet niche and made some reviews of amazon products just to learn how to make a site and to make a few dollars.
Now I'm looking for a more serious niche that could make real money, but not too saturated. As you said I guess that's the key element here.

What popular search terms lead to your site? I would expect it to be like a lottery unless you have very specific articles about common error messages or write tons of searchbait.

>>1556897

Oh yeah, nice. Did you make any money on your pet site, even if it was only a few bucks here and there?

Because of the way Internet commerce works there are a handful of topics that a very profitable, with most of the others not being very profitable at all. The most profitable are tech and health. There are so many tech products and accessories you can buy online it's not funny, same goes for health supplements. On the other hand things like poetry, art etc aren't profitable for the same reason.

So you need to find a topic that is profitable, so there are lots of products online that can be sold that are related to the topic. However since profitable topics are saturated you also will need to find a niche within that topic. That's the hard part.

Now that's the commercial route. You can also go for a non-profitable topic and make money via donations, however that's a whole different game.

>>1556902

No problem anon.

It was partly like a lottery, however as I've said before the key was to be very specific with the titles of the articles. So, for example, one profitable article on macinfo.us is "how to prevent your macbook from overheating".

Now, most articles on this subject are more generic, such as "how to prevent your Mac from overheating". However I specifically focused on the laptops, so that when someone searches how to stop their MACBOOK from overheating my article will come up higher than the more generic competition.

It's better to cast a net narrowly and catch a few fish at a time than to cast a net wide and catch none.

It's also good to title articles the way people think. Go to Google and imagine you are a clueless normie looking something up. Then begin typing like an uneducated normie would and see if Google suggests the rest of the search term. If it does then you know people look up that term and you can use it as a title for an article.

Sorry if I'm rambling

Yeah, I made around $50 in a year with that pet site so it bought its hosting for another year.
Actually I just need to work on it a bit and I think it could make way more.
I'm planning on buying or writing articles and find new ways to monetize it.

But I want a new big project, something like a brand. I have ambition to do it, I want to develop it and work on it every day. I just need to find a topic that interests me and also fairly profitable.

I currently do some part-time work for an editorial services company that allows me to make a decent remote income from anywhere that I have a computer and internet connection. At the moment I'm just doing proofreading, which pays roughly $16-18 per hour. The company also offers other services like editing, typesetting, and tabling, which pay slightly better, but I haven't learned yet. For various reasons I may be taking over the running of the company in the next few months, and if so I'll be earning at least double what I am now.

The only real skills I need for the job are a high level of English and good attention-to-detail. Qualifications are pretty much irrelevant. However, it's a family business and the majority of the clients are people my dad took over from his previous job (or positive word-of-mouth referrals since then), which he was only able to get because he had a degree. So is this a field you can realistically get into if you're intelligent enough to do the work but don't have any qualifications? I don't know, it'd definitely make things more difficult building up the business at the start.
>>
I freelance as a web developer and make about $25K/year doing it.

I tried my hand at affiliate marketing and some eCommerce resellers but never did much. I just recently started a new one, and with zero promotion I have 144 unique visitors and I'm in the top 5 spots for google for the most relevant keywords. Think this might be a good niche.

I hope I can build it with ads and GOOD affiliate marketing ideas to pull $60K/year. That's my long-term goal.

Who are the clients for something like this? Not necessarily specific names, but what sort of industries do you do editing and proofreading for?

Are these for published hardcopy stuff or like for internet/social media kind of things?
>>
>>1559411
Most of the clients are legal publishers, so I've been looking at lots of academic law textbooks and things like that. As far as I'm aware all of the work is with manuscripts that are due to be published physically, but I don't think we'd have any objection to doing things like online articles too, if someone wanted us to (although this sort of thing would have a much quicker turnaround, so it might be more difficult to sort out). Working with law books is pretty difficult for me as I have no background in law, so it's like I'm reading a second language sometimes, but I'm not really required to understand the text, just as long as I can identify whether it's grammatically correct and formatted correctly. It wasn't through any sort of deliberate business strategy that we mostly do legal textbooks - that's my dad's background and those were the sorts of contacts he dealt with in his previous job, and they've always given him enough work so that he's always busy and makes a comfortable salary and doesn't have to actively seek out new clients.

More recently we've also had some more general-audience non-fiction books, which can be about pretty much anything, and also fiction authors looking to self-publish (usually very low-quality, but a job's a job), but that's a much smaller part of the business. For non-fiction books the industry doesn't really matter and the work is pretty much the same (i.e. each sentence is either written correctly or incorrectly), but editing a fiction book tends to be very different - they have much more of an 'artistic' input and tend to have much more dialogue with the authors, discussing various ideas for plot and characters and so on. I wouldn't feel qualified to do that really, you'd need someone who was properly /lit/ for that.
>>
>>1556871

I have tried services like HireWriters, but the quality of the articles wasn't very good. Also I would need to tell them something to write about and one of the problems is that I have no more ideas.

As for selling it to someone who would grow it, if there was such a person I would be willing but only if the sale price makes up for the 2k/year of passive income that I currently get.

Another option I suppose is retaining ownership of the site but hand the operation of it to someone who would grow it, and split revenue -- for example I think 80% revenue to the operator and 20% to me would be fair. However I wouldn't know how to manage such a setup without me or the operator risking being ripped off. If anyone has any ideas however let me know, I'd be interested.

>>1559454

>>1556737

Oh, and macinfo.us also has a little sister site which is macinfo-blog.us -- doesn't get nearly as much traffic as the main site but gets a steady 50-100 visitors a day.
>>
>>1559547
How do you know if a niche is good or bad? I mean, would a blog about how to safely trim pubes be good if you write quality content with great, keyword rich titles?

Anyone got any resources to recommend on looking up keywords and Google search volumes/terms?
>>
>>1559589

Well, if you wanted to publish content about that you'd need to consider 2 main things:

1. Do people search this up? I did a quick Google search and as per pic related it seems that people do search up that kinda thing.

2. Are there relevant products that can be sold for trimming balls/pubes? I don't know much about this subject, so you'd have to find out what kinda products there are related to this that you could sell. If there's very few then it won't be a profitable niche most likely. However if there are various shavers, trimmers etc that you can sell online for trimming pubes then yes it could be profitable.
>>
>>1559624
Cool, do you have any way to see how many actually search for a specific topic every month or so? Still kind of new to the off-page SEO thing.
I wouldn't know much about the topic, was just an example since I've heard there are alot of profits to make in the health industry, as long as it's niched enough.

If anyone want's to try setting up a business for trimming pubes, go ahead. I probably will not pursue that specific topic.
>>
By the way, does anyone have any experience in outsourcing most of the work? I am a front-end web developer today but want to try new things, so I would be able to make a pretty good website. Thinking of outsourcing the articles and see how far it can get, would that be a viable business idea or should I write my own content?

I sell private labeled products through Amazon and my websites. I also have overseas distributors who regularly place huge orders. If you don't know what private labeling is, I have products manufactured by companies with my own name brand, design and logo. Would be great if I could accept or decline, so I won't have to pay for bad articles before I find someone who I want to work with.
What are the general prices for such a service? Say a great article on about 2000 words?

>>1559669
Will check that one out, thanks!

I think I have a rather good niche that has 80-100 popularity on google trends all year around, going to narrow my niche down a bit more but don't want to go too far, feels like the target audience might be too small if I overdo it.
>>
>>1559765
If you want a decent article from a native English speaker it would probably cost around twenty bucks. You could get it for much less from an Indian guy with passable ESL skills though. I usually got about a cent per word on there. You set out what you want clearly. You specify grammar, content, etcetera... If they fuck up you reject them and trust me, that hurts. I wrote both articles as well as product reviews and even job listings. Tried my hand at technical writing but struggled with that.
>>
>>1559752

Some of my products are manufactured in the US, some in China. There are actually a lot of factories in the US that still produce quality products for cheap. They might be a little more expensive then China but they are usually much better quality and without the high overseas shipping costs. Especially if you are dealing with health products, people are willing to pay a premium for US made products.

Most of my energy is spent on researching new products and thinking of how I should tailor this product for the niche market I am selling to, such as what the name and design should be.

My products are all sent directly to Amazon FBA, so they handle all the shipping, refunds, etc. Once I make a new product it is totally passive income that only requires me to place new orders to re-stock my inventory.
>>
>>1559778
Also, most writers will take a couple hours on a 2,000 word article. Paying ten bucks an hour will ensure people are desperate to do your jobs. I'd set up some qualification tests and after a while make the jobs exclusive to workers you know will do well.
>>
>>1559787
I have looked into Amazon and their FBA-program, seems like a really good way of making a passive income. However, I lack the initial funding and feel there's a great risk (trial and error) when researching both your product and the manufacturer.
Someday I might give it a try, when I have some capital or a solid enough product and I feel confident about taking a loan.
>>
>>1559702

Well, now I'm the retard.
>>
>>1559682
how much of this converts into profit ? how much do you approx make a month of profit ?
>>
>>1559810

Most of my products I pay around $4-5 dollars each and sell for $15-30 each on Amazon.

A bad month for me is around $5-8k in sales, a good month would be $15k+

If I make $10k in sales, actual profit after accounting for everything like the Amazon fees would be like $5-6k. Alot of people complain about the high fees on Amazon, but the only thing that matters to me is total net profit every month.

thanks man, you have given me quite a lot of ideas

>>
>>1559847

something like 25% of my profits are taxable, however in reality I pay much less than that.

I contribute the maximum amount to my IRA every year, and deduct as many things as possible as business expenses. The biggest way I cut down my taxes is by cutting down my profits through buying large amounts of inventory. I only need around $2k monthly to live and I try to re-invest as much as possible into my business for future growth.

This is the same thing that Amazon itself does to cut down on their taxes. If you look at their profits, it is very small for a business of their size. It is why they do things like buying Zappos, Audible, and making the Amazon Echo and the Kindle. It's all about spending their profits on future growth instead of giving it up in taxes.

I always pay something every year though, and if you are self-employed it is good to pay taxes anyway as it goes towards your social security.

I have definitely used Chinese products that were better quality, cheaper, and even better designed than US made equivalent products.

However this fact remains that US factories have more stringent manufacturing regulations and quality controls, especially when you are dealing with supplements that need to follow FDA and GMP regulations.

I don't use Google Adsense on my website, I get most of the revenue from Amazon US affiliate links, Amazon CPM ads, Infolinks, and a couple of private partnerships with NordVPN and Eltima Software.

You can see all the companies on macinfo.us/advertise
>>

It's both amazing and gay that you went ahead with it.

i just cut and paste shit and call it a "archive" but its only made like 200 off adsense in the past 4 years

What website builder should I use? I want to create an informational website about engineering topics and link to Amazon etc where appropriate.

I have tested squarespace and wix. Just wondering if anyone has any input on this
>>
>>1565285
Just use Wordpress if possible.

Read all of your reply posts and frankly, you're living my dream. Two things:
Did you personally design anything you sell?
And
Did you start small, build using parts of your revenue to reinvest or did you start with a loan?

How do you pronounce your brand name?

They both contacted me through the advertising page on the site. They have sales teams that go out on the Internet and try forge affiliations with sites they think would be good with selling their products.

You can manually apply however on their respective sites if you have a relevant website. Of course they'd have to approve you tho.

Anon would you like to add another vpn provider to your list? How much commission is nordvpn paying?
>>
>>1556566

at 18 I was introduced to internet marketing and the idea of "i can make money on my computer" instantly had my attention, it immediately became a hobby for me. I started reading all the magical ways people make online and absorbing as much information about anything IM related as I could find. After a few moths of reading I started acting.

My first experience was with affiliate sales for digital products via article marketing. I basically applied the fundamentals of SEO that I learned and vomited some real garbage content, shelling various digital products. I worked at it for probably a month or two, publishing 1-5 articles a week. I started seeing sales about a week in. I brought in a nice little chunk but right as I started to hit 100/day consistently the platform I was using changed their rules and I could no longer use them. Most of my work was trashed which put my fire out and I walked away.

Kept reading IM stuff, kept trying to figure out new things to try.

Few months later I started tinkering with content creation, I began writing articles for a website known as Associated Content (its gone now) and started putting together a system to make decent cash off it.

I continued that for a while until life pulled me away, dont remember why. I also started tinkering with adsense, other article website, and blogging at the time

Eventually I got into ebaying and over the last 5 years that has become not only my hobby focus, but what I do regularly now.

I still make 100 a year (I think its down to 50/year now) from my adsense stuff from back when I was 18, that was a decade ago. I really should get back into utilizing that one day

How did you initially market your website?

I randomly met some people online and developed all the current serverside shit for primedice.com
>millions of dollarinos a year
>owners did drugs on the reg
>left after a year since I was running the show but yet had no say
>>
>>1567363
Forgot to say I only had a 5% cut of the total income, so really just a normal job pay.
>>
>>1567363

How much profit do you think the owners rake in nowadays?
>>
>>1567369
That's an easy one to figure out for most bitcoin websites as they list their stats. primedice.com lists 1280 BTC as their past 24 hour volume and their profit or house edge is 1%.

1280 * .01 = 12.8 BTC or $8192 for everday in operation. Your server bill for this kind of setup will be in the range of $100-$1000 per month and if you're smart you can run this whole site with 1-2 people. The trouble with primedice is they aren't smart and having blown like $40k on a very minor whole site redesign that has brought in no value and they have expanded their team to I think like 8 people now?
>>
>>1564556
Do you think the average Amazon user gives a fuck about your sperglord facts dealing with the cheap product quality meme?

No. Whenever an average American is comparing the same item, with one being manufactured in America and the other being manufactured in China, then they'll purchase the one from America if it's just a few dollars more.
>>
>>1565867

Because I was underage when I created the site.
And now I make good money with Amazon CPM ads and affiliates so I see no need to add Adsense.

>>1566055

No problem.

>>1566113

Yes. You need to consider three things when you decide the topic however:

1. Are you knowledgeable on the topic?
2. Do people search up this topic?
3. Can you montenize this topic?

If the answer to all three are yes you're good to go.

to be comlpetely honest I don't remember. i never put much effort into webdesign, anything I've ever created was either made by hand and fairly simple using HTML5/CSS, installed wordpress or joomla, or outsourced its creation to random cheap designers online. most of the time I don't/didn't use a personal website though.

>>1567608
I'm one of the guys that comes in and answers everyone's questions when eBay threads are created. it's a full time operation for me, I can't speak for anyone else but yes I'm sure there's many of us.
>>
>>1567350

just realized with my response in >>1568565 i did not actually answer your question, sorry.

when i've worked with standalone websties i marketed organically (white grey and blackhat methods) via self handled SEO including

-link webs and circles
-high PR backlinks
-backlink exchanging with similar niche sites
-cheap paid traffic (trickled, not flooded)
-outsourced content creation/article spinning with keyword research
-outsourced cheap word of mouth advertisement via paying people small amounts to bring me up in conversation on social media, forums, etc

I rarely used anything that wasn't free or the cost was a byproduct created by the venture thus it could be used to fund itself, paid for trash traffic a few times just to see how well it works for various niches

im a firm advocate of legitimate SEO to increase rankings and traffic flow. you can sprinkle in various grey/blackhat methods to increase results, but to rely on them exclusively is a fools game. Nothing matches organic SEO
>>
>>1565805
NordVPN and a lot of other companies offer affiliate programs. Just go to their website and there should be a page. You just provide some basic information and your website/blog/whatever and they give you an affiliate id and sometimes marketing material.

>>
>>1571013

why did you stop?
>>
>>1571015

Not all but, some of the many reasons I quit are:
>School started = no time for business
>Too lazy to keep buying new VPS's when I got banned
>Parents thought I was doing something illegal, so they pushed me everyday to quit
>Would rather spend time with friends than staying up till 5am in the morning

Ill probably resume next summer when I have time.
I achieved a lot of my goals in the time I ran it though, bought a new car, rolex watch, spent thousands on clothes, takeout food everyday, computer supplies, every gaming console, and tons of games.
>>
>>1571029
Jesus, how would I get started with this?
>>
>>1571029
Very interesting indeed. Although how can you just resume it. I mean if you google "buy runescape gold" there are > 1,000,000 results. How do you seperate yourself from the competition?
>>
>>1571034
The main reason people can actually make money from this is because players don't know how to do it. The hardest part start out is competing with the big sites, which scares people away.

>>1571039
The way you build your brand and the suppliers you use, will make you competitive.
The small rshub community websites that allow gold selling, enables smaller websites to get started. There is websites that make thousands everyday that aren't even in the top 10 on the "buy runescape gold" search.
>>
>>1571039
You would actually be amazed at how high the markups are on those websites. It almost feels like you're just gaining free money, in a sense.
>>
>>1571045
Thanks for the responses. I've been looking at starting virtual currency exchange for a while now. But i always worry about the security aspect. Did you have any problems with security on your servers. And also where do i find the rshub community?
>>
>>1571046
I would recommend PlayerAuctions, Sythe, and Powerbot. I don't how much experience with PA but the other two sites were great to build off of. Notice the two advertisement banners for boglagold and food4rs on Sythe.org, they sometimes bid $5000-$7000 a month for those spots. I didn't have any issues with security, but when I was caught on private servers or even runescape itself, I had to buy a new VPS because the old one got IP banned/ect.. I wouldn't recommend getting into the market without using a VPS though, the owners of private servers are pretty annoying and will install all sorts of viruses to catch gold sellers.
>>
>>1571056
Alright thanks for the insight. I'll look into it. I'm thinking about hosting it on aws so owners installing virus' onto the servers shouldn't be a problem. I might just set up a program to spin up a new vps when one gets banned. So did you just find suppliers on those forums then connect them to the buyers? Or did they transfer you the gold then you had to transfer it to the player? Is the process of transferring gold able to be automated?
>>
>>1571056
Is there somewhere i can contact you outside of 4chan?
>>
>>1571072
Unfortunately, the gold transferring process cannot be automated but, that's where employees come along. Even without employees I was doing single deals for $500+ at a time quite often. It actually made me feel bad for my customers, spending that much money on runescape but, I guess it brought them some kind of enjoyment.

The process is getting a supplier that is constant and very cheap, then selling the gold to others.
Three very hard steps in the process are:
1. Gaining trust (donating to Sythe, posting a lot, getting known in the community, and having lots of sales helps)
2.Finding a good supplier (several transactions over time helped me get good rates, and being friendly of course helped)
3.Avoiding the server staff(tried to find me everyday, usually weren't successful, sometimes they banned me after I had already made profit from that VPS though)

I rarely talk about this stuff anymore because of the amount of people that ask me for help with it. I helped other people set up gold selling businesses over the span of a couple months and when they were successful from my help, they either left or challenged me in different markets.

Finally, I know this stuff might seem complicated but, it's not, it's very simple, you'll feel comfortable if I told you how to do everything but, you probably can already figure it out.

Good luck anon

>>1571089
It's okay anon, I honestly don't need it. Just research into the market and you'll figure it out, don't be stupid, don't let people screw you over, and you will be fine. Go into it with the simple mindset of buy low/ sell high. You will gain popularity over time and the gold will fly. (Just wish me luck on my chem test tomorrow)
>>
>>1571092

I literally collect shit from cows, compress it and dry it in a kiln. Sell it to nurseries as an eco-friendly replacement for plastic bags.

I turned over 400k last year. I literally just ask farmers if I can collect their shit, ride around in my ute hauling it in massive containers, take it to my garage, shape it and throw it in a kiln.

I am about to start upscaling it for employees so I don't need to do the collection.

I wanted to sell some art so I got good hosting, good domain, supplies and a home studio, everything top of the line.
