All government bond are inherently crap. 10yr US <2% yield, Municipals are all close to defaulting, I'm bearish on even 1yrs. This is why bonds are hardly ever mentioned. 80s is over man.

No you don't. No one's forcing you to buy an ETF when there's a price/NAV differential. You can buy just buy the fund directly, and typically without fees or commissions since we're talking about indices. Open fund purchases always execute at NAV.
