Hey all,
How important do you think your final school grade is? e.g. your GPA, Atar percentile etc?
I feel like I'm only going to do moderately well and wonder how much influence this could have on job prospects in the short/medium term (hoping to get into law).

Getting into a top tier (and even mid tier) law school requires a respectable GPA along with a top LSAT score. During law school, most top firms only look at students at or near the top of the class.
networking is also very important

but do HIGHSCHOOL GPA grades matter?
>>1546785
Only for the application into uni
>>1546785
No high school GPA is worthless execpt for getting accepted to colleges. College GPA is also worthless unless youre planning to do more than a bachelors degree
>>1546842
This and for course exemptions.
>>1546742
GPA is relevant if you want to go into very competitive positions right away.Otherwise just enter a normal position after college and enter your desired field a few years later.

Jobs have gpa requirements.

Would a 3.0 be alright for whatever fun "more than a bachelors degree" holds?
>>1546850
are you sure this is true? A teacher at my school has said job applicants are differentiated by skills/communication > college degree > college grades
>>1546959
It's more like Social Connections > Desired Salary > Real-World Experience > Personality > Degree > Grades
Most employers won't even bother going all the way down to grades to decide an applicant unless the candidate is fresh out of college with no experience. From what I've seen, once you have real world experience, what you did in school no longer matters.

Make sure you do your research about different unis early. It's important to keep in mind that only your undergrad degree WAM and LSAT will affect your post grad law application. If you start an undergrad at melb uni in hopes of entering law and end up getting a poor WAM, you're basically screwed. You should definitely consider undergrad law at monash if you can get a high enough ATAR, as it offers more security. All undergrad courses will only cost you ~10k per year compared to ~40k per year for at unimelb if you do not get a commonwealth supported place.

Doubt I could get the ATAR, pretty sure its 97 for monash law and i'm looking at about a 96 if I'm lucky

Fair enough mate. I'm just finishing off my last semester of science at melbourne this year, so feel free to ask about anything if I can help. Oh and good luck for exams

I'm going into arts/JD so idk about how useful it'll be, but how difficult is uni? I need HDs if I want to study at the american uni I want. Hmu xd
>>1546742
I'm 3.9 in a STEM degree.
When I tell it to other unifags they are impressed, but, does HR not care. Even at banks and tech giants like google?
>>1547070
I've got HD's in 17/20 of my units so far with an average/slightly above average amount of effort. Admittedly, I am pretty passionate about science. From what i've heard from mates, arts units are much harder to do well in than science ones, especially because they scale some arts subjects. Keep an eye out for easy breadth subjects to get some free HDs.

You studying commerce @ unimelb m8?
>>1547370
nah might next year tho, brother is at monash doing comm law
>>1546866
I'm Canadian and I've almost never heard of jobs being selective on the basis of GPA. If anything it is a tiebreaker if everything else is equal between candidates

College GPA matters if you want to do anything past a bachelors degree. At my uni, you need a 3.0 minimum (3.5 for some programs) to be eligible to apply for post grad stuff
Certain fields such as law also are sensitive to GPA, and they usually won't look at you with anything less than a 3.75
Almost everything else doesn't matter. You either graduate with honors (3.8 agpa) or you don't and that's that.
