I mean, in short term situation, yes. But in the long term I disagree. The savings rate is bad enough as is. We're going to have tens of millions of people hit retirement age without proper savings and Social Security won't be enough income for them. Those who rented all their life will have to continue making rent payments on a limited income instead of having a house paid-off that has tons of equity and the only costs are maintenance, taxes, and insurance.
