if you had to choose one of these to start which would it be?
It's not exactly rocket science. Just buy some index funds and hold them until you need the money. Doing anything else is literally competing against bots that can do millions of trades a second.

If you're completely new to investing and finance in general then read the Investing for dummies book.
Out of the other two books, it doesn't really matter which you read first because both are two completely different approaches to investing.
