Anons, interested to hear thoughts on Market Index ETFs (Vanguard, etc) on the ASX.

Are they a similarly good option to Vanguard's offerings on the US market? Or are there issues with taxation or other factors that are introduced in the ASX?

Similarly, what are thoughts on foreign security ETFs on the ASX. Hedged vs unhedged? Do the additional fees make them unattractive vs. sticking that capital into Aus market ETFs?

This is all for long term growth - keep in mind I don't have the ability nor the enthusiasm to consistently monitor and pick my own winning stocks.

We only discuss crypto and micro-caps here mate. 700% profit or gtfo

As a rule, managed funds rarely, if ever out-perform index funds long term while slugging you with fees.
>>
ETFs domiciled in Australia are treated as trusts for tax purposes.

They're good but not as good as US. The fee you pay for the hedged product is very minor (something like 5bps); all you can do is speculate here and it seems most people choose unhedged.

So what's your evidence for this claim

Just slightly higher expenses, nothing material

Could you please elaborate upon the significance of this? I.E. will I be taxed harshly in comparison to holding my own spread of blue chips directly?

BBOZ.AX
Go to betashare's website, you can learn plenty from there. In general, allianz have ZYUS.AX which is what you're looking for. But I have the pre conceived idea we are heading into a recession shortly and therefore don't advise you to place money long.

If we are looking at a recession shortly, what is the best strategy? Money all out of securities? Out of REITs? Where to keep it in the meantime? Govt bonds? Any good articles on this sort of thing?

Plenty on zerohedge.com and other sites which will redpill you on how what we see currently is the end of a larger scale economic cycle(Kondratiev, wikipedia him), but main advice I would have is just to avoid typical long term positions in the market and take a short depending on how much you speculate.

Articles in general to follow would be anything mentioning productivity, interest rates/cash rates, quantitative easing, GDP growth, debt, and bubbles. You get a good nose for bullshit quickly once you start using it, but don't get carried away.

Amount you have, and in what form would help. Mind you, I'm no seasoned investor yet, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

Trusts pay distributions, not dividends. Distributions fall into the income year the trust generates the underlying amounts, not the income year you were paid in. Distributions consist of various components (income, tax offsets, dividends, capital gains), which have to be reported individually in your tax return. The ETF provider will send an annual tax statement with full itemisation to assist
