Let's say theoretically someone had a relative who was about to die soon from cancer.

Now let's say that relative uses a credit card to buy a shitload of stuff and gives this stuff to you secretly.

Is there anything bad that could happen?

if it was a high enough dollar value, the card company might consider trying to prove fraudulent intent.

They might look at the cardholder's previous purchase history and see that there was a group of purchases out of character month before he died. They might decide if it's worth hiring a private investigator or pressing charges. I think it's a long shot of getting caught if you aren't retarded and post on FB about your "big score"

The best option is for them to pawn that stuff of and give you cash. It would be hard as fuck to prove your cash is from your relative, especially if you use it to pay all your non-rent life expenses (gas, groceries, entertainment, furniture, clothing) for a couple months before they get around to the investigation.

>Not just dying peacefully, knowing your $1.3M life insurance policy will look after your family
>Actually thinking a few grand of shit on a CC will make death less saddening

Can't get decent life insurance once you've got cancer m8
>>
>>1479819
That's why you get the insurance while you are still young and healthy. Obviously the concept of life insurance won't work if everybody gets in just days before death.

Well there is probate, so if you die and go into probate to leave things in your will, the credit cards and other people with a lien on you find out and come for their cash.

This. If the estate has any assets, the credit card company can come after them in probate. But if your theoretical relative died without a penny to his name and just had a bunch of credit card debt, there might not be anything the credit card company can do.

Once in a while, transactions will be unwound in probate too.

Several friends and relatives have lost houses because their parents didn't transfer the deed to them quickly enough before they died. The lookback period in some states is pretty brutal, especially when it comes to medicare.

For OP. If they buy you some gifts via credit card and you just refuse to talk about it, they might just write it off. As long as the numbers aren't insanely massive, it's more expensive for them to dig into it.

There can be fraud charges, but proving it is difficult, particularly if the dyeing relative in question has a history of erratic spending, or miscellaneous large gift purchases. For example, if they bought a new car every few years, gave you the used one, and then on their last go around, bought a new car and immediately gave it to you because they were "giving up on driving." You MIGHT have to give the car back, but it's not even remotely likely you will face any criminal charges for it. Criminal charges will require some proof of intent to defraud.

If I get life insurance, then an hero, making it look like an accident (car crash, fire at work, mastubation in the ghetto) will my family receive the funds?
>>
>>1480006

As long as they can't prove you an heroed. If you off yourself most insurances won't pay.
>>
>>1480025

Oh yeah, don't drink and drive either. Some won't pay off if you are breaking the law when you die.

Kill yourself with misconfigured scuba equipment. Fucked up nitrogen mix and you asphyxiate relatively painlessly, and peacefully. Or if you trust someone enough to assist, they can just give you pure nitrogen through a mask and then take the equipment away. Leaves no real detectable traces on an autopsy, and there is no physical trauma or signs of distress.

Apparently "suicide bags" are becoming a somewhat popular as a means to kill yourself in some western countries where assisted suicide isn't legal yet. Australian legislature has had a few shitfits about them.

just wait 2 years after starting the policy. Most people don't realize that the suicide-no-payout clause is limited in this way. People get depressed and off themselves, you cannot discriminated against a guy who was insured for 20 years, then he caught his wife gagging on the pizza guy's BBC and then sucks the lead out of a shotgun.
