I want to buy stocks and hold them for 10 years. Is there any reason why Robinhood is not a good option for this?

My only concern (since RH is still a new brokerage house) that it might run into trouble. Otherwise, I don't see a risk to going long with RH.

Go with TD Ameritrade or eTrade for LONG term holds

It is, FDIC only covers the uninvested cash in your account. It's also SIPC insured for stocks held if RH goes belly up. Again, that's still my concern. Even though you're covered, I personally would rather not mess around with having to do a SIPC claim if I can avoid it.
All of that said, I do have an RH account and play with it, but all of my long holdings are with TD Ameritrade.

What the fuck do you think is going to happen? You think Robinhood is going to get hacked by russians?

I think he's more worried about Robinhood running into financial problems. Like, I still don't exactly know how they profit from their services or if it is sustainable in the ling term. Robinhood Gold is, I guess, their solution to this problem. That being said I use Robinhood. It's a really bare bones broker in terms of graphs and tools and whatnot, but the zero commission deal is just too good to pass up. I think RH will evolve into an awesome broker with time. Remember it's only like two or three years old.
