What the fuck is going on? Why did Xtera (XCOM) jump so fucking high today? Their hardware manufacturer just terminated their contract because they weren't fucking paying them. On top of that they aren't making the minimum required to stay on the NASDAQ. This information was made public on the 22nd. How does this almost double the value of their stock? I'm so confused...

Theoretically, if the people who owned it started buying up a shitton of shares couldn't they artificially drive the price up and resell it all at once for a fat profit? The only victims of this would be people who buy because it starts going up and don't sell in time. Is the stock market just some millionaire prank on the peasants?

Could be. I think it's a little like when the Asian stocks like fucking SkyFruit juice and LEDS bounce tremendously high just some random day. It doesn't matter if the company has debt or what the numbers say, it's """people""" buying huge amounts of shares all at once. The casual investor sees it gaining 50% and joins in. Stock goes above $1, new investors come in, they win
