Can someone explain to me how in the world is health insurance profitable?
You have surgeries that cost at least $10,000 all the way up to hundreds of thousands, pills that cost $100+, doctors that take advantage of you by always prescribing unnecessary pills and follow up appointments etc etc. Most people pay what, 200, 300 maybe 400 for health insurance? I can use that much in doctor appointments in one week.

Do you go to doctors every week of every month of every year?

No but I've had 3 surgeries in the past 4 years that would have been probably around $180,000 out of pocket.
Because not everyone goes and seeks medical help, nor does everybody have a prescription or some other medical necessity. Like all insurance though, people are scared of something happening them, and to lessen the financial burden they get insurance. Money pools get pulled from regardless of if you use it or not. Further, insurance agencies invest a lot in other businesses or assets to improve their own income.

Out of the people insured a small handful required those surgeries.
Insurance is all statistical. That's how they make money, because on the large scale not everyone is going to need expensive drugs and surgeries to be covered
It's all math and risk-management. They make money, and good money.

I've paid premiums all of last year and never went to a doctor even once.
That's how.
Literally free money for them.

You think your insurance actually pays that $180,000! Kek. They probably settle it for 10% of the sticker price. Insurance companies are literally casinos, except with Obamacare everyone is forced to play.

This is true.
>Insurance companies are literally casinos, except with Obamacare everyone is forced to play.
This is retarded.
The first has nothing to do with the second. You're just parroting shit you read on /pol/. one of which was accurate and one of which was typical 4chan nonsense.
Insurance companies actually way overcharge. Look at the obscene amounts the executives get paid. Even the local agents around these parts live in the richest part of town.
I don't see how the gov't can force people to hand over money to these for-profit corps.

The minimum policy today is $250/month per person.
It's profitable.
