So I have 2 semesters left before I graduate with a Bachelors in finance.

The thing is I never got an internship. Will I have trouble getting a job around May of next year? I have basically only 14 months of work experience which is not relevant to my degree at Fedex in a warehouse.

Should I be trying to get summer internships for next year or is that a stupid idea considering I will be graduated by then.

Will talk to adviser at school about this but in the meantime would like other people's opinions on this.

How the fuck haven't you acquired an internship yet?
1. Where are you in the world/usa(you better be near a big city)
2. are you on the dean's list?
3. what's your gpa
4. do you have family connections?
5. What kind of uni do you go to?
and 5. are you open to moving to a major city if you can't find a job in your area?

I work in finance, specifically as an actuary at an insurance firm.

>Where are you in the world/usa(you better be near a big city
Massachusetts so I don't live in the middle of nowhere.
>are you on the dean's list?
no
>what's your gpa
3.2
>do you have family connections?
Pretty sure where my dad works they don't allow that type of shit to happen. At least in the same location.
>What kind of uni do you go to?
Large state university.
>are you open to moving to a major city if you can't find a job in your area?
I would move anywhere in the country. As long as I have a job.

>How the fuck haven't you acquired an internship yet?
Transferred over from community college. Not like I was here for 3 years. But I don't have a legitimate excuse anyways. I am thinking it is too late at this point? You think so yes?

Do you have any siblings that work in the industry or may get an internship from pursuing the same degree area in college(especially a more prestigious one)?(Also, I don't know if you're a twin or anything, you'd be surprised at how many people get internships from siblings that have internships)

>I would move anywhere in the country. As long as I have a job.
Good, I hope you have the money for that though. Moving costs can range into the thousands.

>But I don't have a legitimate excuse anyways. I am thinking it is too late at this point? You think so yes?
It's not too late, but there's always work-study during the school year. Not sure if your university has that although most state unis do.

Good GPA though. Not bad. There's hope for you yet.

>Do you have any siblings
Sister is younger than me so no.
>Good, I hope you have the money for that though. Moving costs can range into the thousands
I have like 6k and my parents are supportive so not an issue.
>It's not too late, but there's always work-study during the school year. Not sure if your university has that although most state unis do.
I'll check more into it when I get back there at the end of this month for sure. Does it matter a lot? I don't know the whole details about internships but if they like you they have a job lined up for you when you graduate I assume? Or some of them?
And just assume I don't get internship and I just graduate without one. I start applying for jobs before I graduate and I should just mass apply for everything I see on sites like indeed etc?

It's not going to be too big an issue that you do not have an internship. It would be helpful, yes, but it's not the end of the world if you do not. My opinion is that internships are a way to get a permanent job at the company you interned with.

If you think look at it a certain way, a company has to hire an intern without any experience so there's not too much difference in hiring an employee without any experience. Of course, the key differential is that interns are like contractors. If it doesn't pan out, the company does not have to invite the intern back and there is no severance. Also, I'm not aware of internships paying for relocation expenses.

I think the best thing you can do is buckle down and bring your GPA up. 3.2 in finance really isn't such hot stuff, IMO. I'm assuming you'll be taking meaningful classes so strive to make an A in those courses. If your GPA is being dragged down by the non-major classes, state the GPA for the classes directly related to your major.
