Accepted to Columbia, but I still have no clue if I should be majoring in economics or finance or both. What's the best path?

Why aren't you studying law ?
>>1430481
dead end job.

Finance, not economics.
Finance = Big money, power moves only.
Economics = Autistic nerds arguing over shit they don't understand while Chad Thundercock is climbing an investment bank.

carman, majoring in finance + stats or CS
you?
>going to a $65,000 a year college
congrats for getting into an elite school but unless your parents are rich or you have scholarships out the ass this is a mistake
>Going to Columbia
>Picking a shitty major like economics or finance when you're at a top STEM school
Fucking christ.

Finance at Columbia is fucking top tier. I am looking at physics, but the idea of mentally masturbating to functions all day in an office isn't my thing. Likely going to get an MBA too, and I'd like to specialize in plants, because they're fucking cool

major scholarship $$$$, I can't speak for the OP but I'll pay less than one year's worth of tuition over the course of four whole years. same thing is the case for most of the student body who aren't trust-fund babies. columbia also has very generous financial aid.

that's SEAS, judging from the OP's post he's in CC too. at the end of the day, the only thing that is different besides specific majors is your degree saying B.A. or B.S. though the financial engineering program in SEAS looked cool, but all of those classes are offered to CC students anyways.

Think of your minor as a secondary specialty. What would maximize your Finance degree's value while also differentiating you from the pack? I don't have a specific answer for this, but think about how others will respond when reading the combination off your resume.
For example, political science, mathematics, or business would be smart choices, basket weaving or sociology would not.

not true, Crispin Odey and Paul Tudor Jones took economics, MBAs seem to be frequent among successful traders also

this
if you go to the Engineering/Math school you're slaving away doing chem, physics, and calc all day for the majority of your undergrad years.

This guys got it.
I think ivies are a really good opportunity for any major, really. Although, it's really shady sometimes with it's applicants... dumb ass affirmative action
