Instead of ether settling at X in 30 years, it will settle at X/2 with two different kinds of ether. Think about it, if someone makes a product that runs on ethereum, it can run on either blockchain and the product won't be different. it's already super easy to change between the two. Whatever you believe the ultimate fate of ethereum to be, it will also happen to classic.
