Jobs that involve outdoor work. Hey /biz/ I'm not sure what to do with my life. I left a job I was at doing service engineering software consulting for 60k/yr including bonus 4 months ago. I hated it and only did it for the money. I have a B.S. In Comp Sci, but I'm realizing more and more that I don't really give a shit about that stuff. I can't stand the corporate fake life, where lying and doing your best to eat shit from others gets you ahead. I have about 22k left in my checking account, rent is about 1325 a month. I started applying for more things in my field, but it's souless.
My real passion is with the outdoors, nature, the environment, and science. The fucking problem is that I wish I had a different degree. Has anyone else been through this? I wish I got a degree in geology or biology or oceanography or some shit, which really interests me.
Any advice from people that have experienced this sudden career revelation after college? Is it possible to break into something else without a relevant degree for it? I feel pretty trapped right now. I live with my fiance that teaches part time at our college, but def doesn't make enough for the two of us.

>biology or oceanography decree
I don't have one of those but what I've heard (and seen) you won't find any jobs in that sector espically the last one.

There are plenty of jobs in the biology field, such as working in labs, in the field, medical technologists, ect.
Why don't you do software consulting for like the NOAA or a company that's more in line with what you want to do and then say "hey I would like to get an advanced degree so I can play a more pivotal role in this organization's future" or something like that.
It's an awfully small target to hit but if it were easy I'd just say "get a gud job" and you'd say "ok"

this. You can make $60k a year installing directv but its HARD F'ing labor (getting on roofs all day with a heavy ladder)

I'm in a similar boat.
Was a software engineer. Gave it up after five years to get a diploma in Animal Management and now studying for a BSc in Wildlife Biology. Best choice I ever made.
