Hi /biz/,
I quit a job I was good at back in April to move cities. I wanted to check out other opportunities in the new market and quickly found and accepted a job in a different industry. I only stayed for 2.5 months because I hated everything about it (specifically, the people), and plan on returning to my old industry. I left the short-term job off my resume, so now there is a 4 month gap.
Question: When asked about the gap, should I lie and say I've been traveling, brushing up my skills, and waiting for the right position since moving, or should I be honest and say I worked in a different industry for a short period of time but realized the old work was a much better fit for me?
Just don't put the months in your job history.

What if they require them for background checks? Lying about a start/end date is sure to get me denied.

just say you had another job but being the new guy you got laid off and struggled to find another ever sense.

Ask them whether they remembered the exact date they started 5th grade.
no. say you worked, but at a job that wasn't relevant to the job you're currently applying for.
